At Oogst we love diamonds! This mysterious gemstone suits all and even a little stone can have a big impact. How is that possible? We will answer the most frequently asked questions about a diamond below.
What makes a diamond so special
Diamonds have many characteristics that make them so loved. There is the magical beauty and it’s rarity, but the stone also has a few scientific properties that are very special. For example its high breaking index effects the way the light bents, scatters and reflects. This is why the diamond has a remarkable brilliance. Not comparable to anything else. Diamond is the hardest material found in nature. That makes it a beloved gemstone to wear in an everyday jewel, like an engagement or wedding ring. Diamonds are forever!

What does a diamond symbolize?
In Greek the word means ‘unbeatable’. This rare rock is loved all around the world and is mentioned in many ancient texts.
The diamond stands for purity and commitments in relations. It symbolizes love, investment and durability. An ideal addition to an engagement ring or a wedding ring. Diamonds are girl’s best friend.
What is the difference between a diamond and a brilliant?
Diamond means the gemstone and brilliant is the way this gemstone has been cut. It’s the round shape with 58 facets, that is the most popular cut for diamonds. This is why these two words are almost synonymous
What are the four C’s of a diamond?
Colour stands for the tone, clarity is the stone’s purity, carat is the weight of the diamond and cut it’s shape.
clarity
Our advice: Choose a good clarity grade for your diamond. We prefer to work with VVS1 as that gives a lot of life in the diamond. It will make it sparkle like crazy in all shapes, small or large, round or square.
cut
Most beautiful is a perfectly cut diamond, it means that all its proportions are optimal. The shape we use the most is a brilliant shape. Next to the classical round brilliant we also use princess cut (a square shape), oval cut and pear shaped diamonds in our collection. Something a little different is a rose cut diamond, quite magnificent with a vintage feel. This antique cut has a flat bottom and bigger facets at the rounded top.
colour
Colour is a matter of taste. A perfectly white diamond will sparkle at you, you will keep staring at it! At Oogst we also love light brown or light yellow diamonds in a rose or yellow gold ring. The warm tones will blend really nicely with these gold colours and give an edge to it, something special. Colour also has an influence on the price of a diamond. The more white the diamond is, the more expensive it will be. Did you know there are also really bright colours like hot pink or ocean blue? These are called fancy colours, for they are treated (with high pressure and high temperature) to become this tone, so these are not natural tones, but really fun. Actually we love all colours.
carat
Carat is the weight of the diamond. One carat has a hundred points. It also influences the price of this gorgeous gem. And so the carat of your diamond is depending on your budget. The price goes up in steps, very often per 5 points. It is more rare to find a big rock with the perfect colour and clarity than a small stone. At Oogst we like to help you with picking between all these 4 c’s possibilities.
