We have a beautiful profession! We can make people happy with jewellery that lasts for generations. That already is an environment friendly choice. Sustainability is very important to us. We don’t want to be part of the throwaway society and try to minimalize our ecological footprint.
Environmentally conscious at work in our studio
We try to achieve this in different ways at Oogst. A conscious effort to not use too much energy and have a green energy contract, that means wind or water energy. We recycle as much as possible and we re-use all our bags and boxes. That already makes a difference.
Of course we can’t avoid to use certain chemicals in the making process. But we are always very economic and we will dispose of it in the right way. All small efforts help.
Jewellery created with recycled ‘good’ gold
And gold itself? Mining gold is environmentally unfriendly. More and more companies try to improve this process. Right now it is possible to make jewellery from fairtrade gold too. The only problem is that there is not enough of this gold coming on the market and it has to travel from afar.
That’s why we at Oogst choose to use locally recycled gold for all of our jewellery as a standard. How does that work you may ask? All Dutch goldsmiths save up all their filings and residue material and hand it in for recycling. But also other industries join in. Did you know that two hundred mobile phones contain enough gold to make one wedding ring. All this precious metal will be purified to 24 ct and is then alloyed again to 14 ct or 18 ct gold by our suppliers, so we can then use this once again to create jewellery. This process is called “urban mining”.
Recycle your own heirloom gold
We regularly use heirloom gold our clients bring to their appointment. Next to the emotional value a heirloom piece already has, it also is a way to not put more pressure on the environment. How magical that grandma’s bracelet can become a new ring. Do you want to know more about what we can make with heirloom gold? Read about it on our website.
This way we consciously work in a sustainable way to try to reduce our carbon footprint.
Do you also want to have a custom piece of jewellery made with your heirloom gold? Are you curious what we can design for you? Please make an appointment!
Recycle your own heirloom gold with Oogst! Almost all the jewellery from our collection and custom designs can be created with your heirloom gold as well. Also diamonds or other gemstones can be re-used in a new design.
